A partnership built to hold

There are collaborations built around big launches and bold announcements. And then there are the ones that quietly carry on, day after day, doing work that simply has to work. Itera’s long‑standing collaboration with Össur belongs to the latter.

About Össur

Össur is a leading global provider of innovative mobility solutions that help people live a Life Without Limitations®. The company was founded in 1971 by Icelandic prosthetist Össur Kristinsson, who developed the breakthrough silicone interface for prosthetic sockets, the Iceross®  liner. In 1986, Össur started its international expansion and expanded rapidly through organic growth and strategic acquisitions. Significant ongoing investment in research and development has led to over 2,100 patents, award-winning designs, and successful clinical outcomes.

The partnership in brief

For years, Itera has supported Össur with critical IT services through dedicated teams, largely based in Ukraine. The setup has changed over time. The scope has shifted. But the expectations have stayed remarkably consistent: stability, quality, and people who take responsibility.

When the context changed overnight

In February 2022, the context for delivery changed dramatically.

For consultants working from Ukraine, everyday life was suddenly shaped by uncertainty and disruption.

People adapted in real time. Some worked from shelters. Others pieced together stable connections where they could. Delivery wasn’t framed as heroics or exceptions. It was handled with pragmatism, care, and a strong sense of responsibility towards the customer.

Throughout this period, close dialogue between Itera and Össur was essential. Priorities were aligned continuously, safety always came first, and expectations were managed with mutual understanding. What could be delivered, was delivered. What couldn’t, was handled openly.

Alongside the day‑to‑day work, the collaboration also took on a more human dimension. Teams contributed to humanitarian efforts, helped displaced families, and supported initiatives aimed at people affected by the war. Not because it was part of a strategy or a message, but because it felt natural.

What Itera delivers

Today, the collaboration has moved into a different phase. Development work has largely been completed, and the focus is now on support, stability, and quality across existing systems. Around 14 Itera consultants, organised into six teams, work closely with Össur on a broad set of responsibilities.

This includes operational and infrastructure support, Business Intelligence, and extensive testing and quality assurance across several platforms.

One of the most central areas is Össur’s Salesforce ecosystem, a large and long‑running initiative where Itera has been involved for many years. Here, Itera carries the main responsibility for testing, including automated testing. In practice, that means acting as a final quality gate before changes reach users.

Itera also supports quality assurance for a growing portfolio of Power Apps, helping ensure that even smaller solutions are stable, reliable, and fit for purpose.

Built on continuity

Over the years, both organisations have changed. Teams have scaled up and down. Focus areas have shifted. Össur has gone through mergers and reorganisation, becoming part of Embla Medical.

The collaboration has continued.

Not because of a single project or delivery, but because of shared expectations and a way of working that holds up over time. Sometimes, the most meaningful work is the work that simply keeps everything else moving.
