Data-driven solutions opened new business opportunities for Glamox

Glamox, a leading Norwegian manufacturer of lighting solutions with factories in several countries, wanted to take a major step toward more efficient, data-driven production. With a wide product range — from office buildings to offshore platforms and cruise ships — it was essential for Glamox to have full control over demand and inventory levels.

The challenge: Manual processes and lost sales

Glamox found that much of the work with demand forecasts and inventory management relied on manual routines and limited data. Safety stock levels were adjusted based on gut feeling, making it difficult to predict when and where products would run out. The result? Unnecessary lost sales, time spent on repetitive tasks, and less efficient production.

 

The solution: Data-driven insights and automation

Itera worked closely with Glamox to understand their critical business goals. Through workshops and a Data Discovery & Assessment process, they mapped how data flowed between sales and production systems and identified areas with the greatest potential for improvement.

They discovered Glamox lacked precise KPIs to measure production efficiency and the success of new forecasting models. New operational KPIs were developed to measure:

  • Reduction in lost sales due to stockouts
  • Increased production efficiency (products produced per hour, improved margins)
  • Time savings through automation of manual tasks

Based on this, an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) was designed—a platform built on Azure, seamlessly integrated with Glamox’s existing infrastructure. The solution included a machine learning model providing accurate demand forecasts, as well as Power BI dashboards to visualize results and suggest optimal production plans.

With the new solution, Glamox achieved:

  • Reduced risk of stockouts — and thus fewer lost sales
  • More efficient production — better resource utilization and increased profitability
  • Automated processes — time freed for value-creating work and improved decision-making
